Enrollment Procedures

Below you will find our procedures on getting into courses. Some courses, such as internship and independent study, require the student to apply and get approval to take the course.

Overrides

In instances when a student may not have the pre-requisites for a course, or the course is full, a student can request an override by going to http://override.cas.msu.edu/

Please note that an override simply removes the restrictions from the computer, YOU must still add the course to your schedule. When enrolling for a course that is full you cannot use the “View Open Section” option, you must select the “Add” command and type in the course information.

Late Adds

A student who wishes to add a course after the open enrollment period has ended, must complete a late add slip. The forms are available in 189 Com Arts and outside room 409 Com Arts. After completing the form and obtaining the instructor’s signature, the student will need to return the form to 409 Com Arts within 24 hours. The course will then be added to the student’s schedule. (Please note that if you have a hold on your account that the Department cannot add courses to your schedule.)

Waivers

To have a requirement or rule waived, a student can request an override by going to http://override.cas.msu.edu/

The only exception is waivers for TC 439 Internship credit.  To request a waiver for one of the eligibility requirements for TC 439 Internship, complete a for-credit internship waiver form and submit it with your For-Credit Internship Application. These waiver forms are included as part of the For Credit Internship Application and can be found on the Internship page.

Independent Studies

A student who has reached junior status and has a 2.5 GPA, is eligible for a directed study with a faculty member. Students who wish to perform an independent study will need to complete an Independent Study form. For more information and download the form, visit the independent study page.
